History
The Desai family immigrated to the United States in the early eighties from Gujarat, India in the pursuit of new opportunities.
The family’s early business ventures included drive-in restaurants and motels. Later, the family expanded its hotel operations to multiple locations and states. Currently, the primary business is the acquisition and development of individual companies.
Our experience in the hotel industry has given us a deep understanding of commercial real estate as well as an expertise in business operations and asset management.
Since 2009 our team has invested over $100mm in transactions which has propelled our vision to expand to other sectors where our knowledge could be applied to diversify the company’s portfolio.
Our Executive Team
Sunny Desai - CEO
Sunny provides strategic oversight to the portfolio companies and heads the investment team. He is a State of Mississippi Registered Real Estate Broker and Licensed Contractor. He is also a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Sweta Desai - Chief Financial Officer
Joined the company in 2017. Sweta brings 7 years of experience from PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (PwC), one of the Big Fours in public accounting. Sweta has worked as a Tax Manager in the financial services industry, more specifically on real estate and private equity funds. She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2008 with a Masters in Taxation. She is a licensed CPA in Virginia and Texas.
Sara Priest - Construction Project Manager
Sara Priest is a Mississippi native with over 20 years of experience in residential and commercial construction and design. Prior to joining the Desai Companies team in 2021, Sara served as a Process and Quality supervisor in the telecom construction industry earning her Six Sigma certification in project management. Her leadership and expertise drive innovative and successful project outcomes for the organization.
Maria Moys - Legal Analyst
Maria Moys joined the company in 2021 as a Legal Analyst. She holds a Master of Laws (M.L.L.) with a specialization in Human Talent Development and is also a Corporate Paralegal. Prior to joining the team, she served as Senior Director of Studio Operations & Development, where she focused on franchisee development and compliance. Her diverse background allows her to bring both legal expertise and operational insight to the team.
Irene Baron - Executive Assistant
Irene serves as Executive Assistant to Sunny Desai. She is an Industrial and Systems Engineer with expertise in hospitality procurement, plant management, organizational growth initiatives, and CNC manufacturing. She’s a dedicated problem solver with a keen eye for human-product interaction, attention to detail, and cross-functional teamwork.
